☃️ Not all fridges are the same when it comes to noise. In fact, the difference in sound level can make a significant difference to your quality of sleep, especially if you live in a bedsit and the fridge is close by.
👉 I was commissioned to measure the noise of a fridge and relate this to the specifications of the white goods and the overall assessment of the situation. A client in a rented flat is having trouble sleeping because the fridge is noisy.
📈 The results were as follows:
– The noise level of the fridge was approximately 35-40 dB(A),
– When the fridge was switched off, the level dropped to 27-29 dB(A),
– The sound background in the flat when all appliances were switched off was around 20 dB(A),
– The technical specification of the fridge indicated a noise level of 40 dB.
👩💻 The client is absolutely right that this particular fridge is noisy and this can cause sleep problems. Getting used to this level of noise is not really a satisfactory solution. There are now very quiet fridges on the market, reaching as low as 30 dB, although of course this usually comes with a higher price tag.
📰 In my article for Focusly (link) I discussed a similar situation.
